PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid bearing device having low torque and high reliability, capable of reducing electric power consumption, and being the optimum for miniaturization, and to provide a spindle motor using it. SOLUTION: In this fluid bearing device having a dynamic pressure generation channel in at least either of a shaft and a sleeve and having lubricant in a clearance in which the shaft and the sleeve oppose mutually, the lubricant contains esther obtained from dihydric 4-8C alcohol and having no alkyl side chain atβposition, saturated 6-10C dibasic acid, and saturated 5-13C monovalent fatty acid.
