PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flash unit with which the quantity of emitted light therefrom can be measured with a higher precision. SOLUTION: The flash unit has; a flash member 1 for emitting flash, an optical member 3 which is arranged in an outermost shell in a subject direction, of the flash member 1 and passes through emitted light from the flash member 1; and a light receiving member 4 for receiving light resulting from reflection in the optical member 3 of emitted light from the flash member 1, and the light receiving member 4 is arranged so that the reflected light in the optical member can be directly received from the optical member 3.
