PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which can prevent it from automatically coming to a stop at a stage when the cooling power of the cooling system is still sufficient and the temperature of the polarizer transducer is not high. SOLUTION: This is a projector which has a cooling system 160 for cooling the polarizer transducer 140 to change the unpolarized light from a light emitting bulb 112 into the polarized light. It has a temperature sensor 710 to detect the temperature of the polarizer transducer 140, and an electric power supply interrupter device 720 to cut the power to the light emitting bulb when the temperature obtained by the temperature sensor becomes higher than the threshold temperature. The threshold temperature when the cumulated used time of the light emitting bulb becomes larger than the predetermined time (T<SB>1</SB><SP>*</SP>) is set higher than the threshold temperature (T<SB>1</SB>) when beginning the use of the bulb.
