PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for detecting, identifying and imaging the presence of a biological material. SOLUTION: In this method and apparatus for detecting the biological material on a non-living surface, various samples are exposed to electromagnetic radiations of specific energies capable of exciting various endogenous fluorescent groups, and the fluorescent groups emit measurable fluorescences. The signals resulting from a background, scattered excitation lights and reflected excitation lights are removed from the fluorescence signal of the endogenous fluorescence from the biological material, and intensities of the signals from the endogenous fluorescent groups are required to come within expected ranges.
