PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring raceway depth in a coke-filling type shaft furnace and a measuring instrument therefor with which the raceway depth can accurately be measured. SOLUTION: The raceway depth measuring instrument is provided with a high speed camera 5 for photographing the raceway 2 in the furnace and an image processing apparatus 10 for processing this image, and while using this instrument, the number of pieces per unit time of raceway circling cokes 1c at each distance in the raceway depth direction in the furnace or a speed component of the circling cokes is counted or measured, and the raceway depth LS is obtained by performing the comparative-operation with the pre-defined setting value.
