PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cutting a glass tube in good precision and a manufacturing method of a flare≤for a bulb using it. SOLUTION: This method for cutting a glass tube comprises a step to form a streak 2 on the surface of the glass tube 1, a step to cover the glass tube 1 formed with the streak 2 with a side pressure-transmitting cylinder 3 and to hermetically hold it in a pressure container 4, and a step to apply tensile stress to the glass tube 1 through the side pressure-transmitting cylinder 3 by applying pressure to the side pressure-transmitting cylinder 3 through a pressure medium 10. When the outer diameter of the glass tube 1 is made as d(mm) and the thickness of the side pressure-transmitting cylinder 3 is made as t(mm), following conditions are satisfied: t=4 when 4≤d≤5, 4<t<5 when 5<d<7, t=5 when 7≤d≤9, 5<t<6 when 9<d<11, t=6 when 11≤d≤13, 6<t<7 when 13<d<15, t=7 when 15≤d≤17, 7<t<8 when 17<d<23, and t=8 when 23≤d≤25.
