PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and flash ROM rewriting method capable of efficiently rewriting the flash ROM for a short time according to the state. SOLUTION: A sub-side flash ROM 132 has a first main program area 132b storing the first main program which is one of the programs for sub-CPU section and a second main program area 132c storing the second main program which is one of the programs for sub-CPU section. The sub-CPU section 130 performs the program in the latest rewritten area while performing the control of the sub-CPU section 130 and the rewriting of the data of other program area out of the first main program area 132b and the second main program area 132c.
