PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat cutting tool to allow even an unskilled operator to regenerate its cutting edge simply to the condition near the initial state. SOLUTION: The flat cutting tool for cut-off work in which the upper parts of the side faces 4 incline and intersect acutely with the top surface 2 is furnished at the top surface 2 with a plurality of breaker grooves 5 at a constant pitch in the longitudinal direction, and one of the side faces 4 is provided with a cracking line 6 to crack off the front portion of the cutting tool ahead of the breaker grooves 5 in a position proximal to the breaker grooves 5, while the one having no directionality about the top surface 2 and bottom surface 3 is arranged so that breaker grooves 5 are formed zigzag at the top surface and bottom surface, so as to accomplish a cutting tool, in particular favorable in economical terms.
