The method involves controlling an electric motor (4), coupled to a crank shaft (2) of an internal combustion engine, using a control unit to position the shaft in a starting position when rotation speed of the shaft is less than a preset speed. The unit is independent of the rotation speed of the shaft. The shaft is moved to the position after the engine is switched off, so that the engine starts from the position when restarted. An independent claim is also included for a control system for controlling an electric motor coupled to a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine to position the crank shaft. |
