In one form of the clamping unit a rotor(14) of a motor drive unit(7) is connected directly to at least one connecting rod(15) via a joint inside the rotor diameter and eccentric to the rotor axis. The connecting rod is indirectly connected to a toggle lever arrangement(8) for axially moving and clamping the moving tool platen(6). In a second form of the clamping unit the toggle lever arrangement is replaced by a crank drive comprising a connecting rod linked to a rotor as with the previously claimed arrangement. The motor(7) is an electric hollow shaft motor with a swiveling joint(16) for the connecting rod(15) on the hollow shaft end. Operation of the connecting rod swings the toggle lever mechanism(8) into the extended position at top dead center for locking the moving platen(6). The motor(7) is fully rotatable for opening and closing the moving platen. A joint(10.2) connects one end of the toggle lever mechanism to a base(3) and another joint(10.3) connects it to the moving platen. A free joint(10.1) connects the levers(11.1,11.2) and another joint(10.4) connects via a transverse yoke(13) with the connecting rod. The toggle lever mechanism can be a double or triple lever arrangement and comprises pairs of levers on both sides of a plane of symmetry running in the platen stroking direction. Control rods(12) connect toggle levers with the yoke on both sides of the plane of symmetry and swivel in opposite directions. Two connecting rods are employed, each mounted at opposing ends of the rotor and linked via the yoke to toggle levers on both sides of the plane of symmetry. The rotation axis of the motor is perpendicular to the platen stroke direction and the housing side is fixed to the base supporting the toggle lever mechanism. |
