<p>An adsorption element (10) has free-flow channels (13) through which gas stream passes; adsorption layer (12); and spacer element (11) between adsorption layers to form the free-flow channels. An independent claim is also included for a method of preventing atmospheric pollution by hydrocarbons from return flow of gases through intake tract of internal combustion engine, comprising providing the inventive adsorption element in the intake tract; adsorbing hydrocarbon vapors on adsorption layer from a return flow of gases from the engine through the intake tract, and desorbing adsorbed hydrocarbons from the adsorption layer into an intake air stream drawn through the intake tract to the internal combustion engine when the engine is operating and combusting the desorbed hydrocarbons in the engine.</p> |
