The method involves controlling current supply to a switching relay (2) by monitoring relay current or a value of the relay current. The supply to the relay is disconnected when the relay current or a relay current value exceeds rated current or a rated current value. The supply is connected to the relay when the relay current or the relay current value falls below the rated current or the rated current value. An independent claim is also included for an electronic circuit for controlling a switching relay.
