The heavy load container (1) for the storing and transporting of a generator rotor (5) or exciter rotor comprises an upper section and a lower section which are constructed flexurally rigid and interconnected gas tight. The bottom section at least is constructed from a load bearing material matched to the weight of the generator rotor or exciter rotor. A nitrogen supply unit (11) is installed permanently on the container, and an inlet opening is located on the container for the connection of the nitrogen supply unit to fill the container with nitrogen.
