The present invention relates to methods of ecological monitoring of aquatic environment, specifically to a method for determining long-term toxicity of the aquatic environment by test organisms such as hydras. The proposed method consists in determining the absence of the acute toxicity of the water solution, then monitoring the reproduction and death of the test organisms in the sample for two periods, the total length of which is equal to the period that is required for the reliable analysis of the acute toxicity. After each period, the test organisms are fed up, and new test organisms are calculated that arrived in result of reproduction. Then the test organisms are not fed up for 11 ... 13 days. Upon completion of the whole analysis period, which lasts for 19 ... 21 days, the indicators are calculated that characterize the reproduction, survival, and death of the test organisms. The calculated indicators are compared with the standard indicators. The comparison results are used for estimating the long-term toxicity of the aquatic environment.
