USE OF 4-CHLORO-PHENYL-ETHYL CARBAMATE AS AN ACTIVE COMPOUND FOR TREATING AMAEBIASIS.

The present invention describes the use of 4-chloro-phenyl-ethyl carbamate for treating amaebiasis. Unlike other antimicrobial drugs currently available on the market said compound is neither mutagenic in the Ames system nor toxic at concentrations lower than 125 Ag/ml in a system where the enzimatic activity of the hepatic cells is measured. Likewise, said compound enables the amoebic hepatic tissue to be sustantialy recovered, thereby eliminating the infection and recovering the damaged hepatic tissue. The aforesaid process was tested in an animal model.
