The generator unit (1) for a wind or water power turbine has a driven shaft (3) and at least one electric generator (6-9). The shaft has at least one friction wheel (4,5) engaging drive pinions (14-17) on the generators. The generator is mounted to pivot around a rotational axis parallel to the shaft in the direction of the friction wheel, whereby the rotational directions and the relative position of the friction wheel and drive pinion in the engaged position effects a locking of the friction engagement.
