The shears have opposite pairs of rotary driven blade supports (1, 1') mounted on each side in a common shears cassette (2) with fixed mutual spacing. The cassette is mounted inside an external frame (3). The cassette is raised and lowered through associated lift means (4) inside the external frame. Each blade support is formed as a flattened body with a pair of longitudinal sides and narrow sides. The blade supports are synchronised in contra-rotation through associated gear wheels (11) which are in permanent engagement.
