The prosthesis has a femoral part mounted movable with respect to a swiveling part mounted relative to a tibial base. One of the swiveling part and base has a finger (33) engaged in a reservation (44) of the other such that axial rotation of the part is limited by the finger when the finger is in abutment against the reservation. A finger and reservation immobilization unit is released at request in a manner to allow axial rotation. The lower end of the femoral part has two condyles (12) cooperating by contact and sliding with a tibial plate (30) having an upper smooth surface carried by the swiveling part.
