PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting unit for a traffic signal which is satisfactory in assembly operability and the position precision of members by integrating a light source into a unit for integral dealing. SOLUTION: A front cover 40 for peeking a light source 21 from the front part and a lighting unit main body 50 covering a light source unit 20 from the back part are united from the front and back parts so that a light source unit 20 can be housed. The front cover 40 is provided with an opening peripheral part 41 closely contact to the front outer periphery of the light source 20 through which the light source 21 is peeked, an edge part 42 closely contact to the lighting unit main body 50 and a receiving face 41a of the light source unit 20. An outer peripheral part 25 of the light source unit 20 is butted to the receiving face 41a of the front cover 40, and a ring metallic fitting 30 for pressing the full periphery of the outer peripheral edge part 25 is screwed into the front cover 40 so that the light source unit 20 can be mounted on the front cover 40.
