PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device for adjusting mold clamping force which can simply obtain exact mold clamping force. SOLUTION: A toggle mechanism is contracted and held in a state (W) in which set mold clamping force is obtained [Fig. (a)]. In this state, a mold thickness adjustment mechanism is driven, and a mold is stuck by advancing a rear platen 11 [Fig. (b)]. The sticking is detected by the overload current etc., of a motor driving the mold thickness adjustment mechanism, and the advance of the rear platen is stopped. A tie bar 15 elongated byΔL by the sticking of the mold is returned to the original state when the toggle mechanism 14 is contracted [Fig. (c)]. The elongationΔL corresponds to force by the overload current of the motor when the sticking of the mold is detected and is constant. The elongationΔL is set and stored. After the sticking is detected, by moving back the rear platen byΔL [Fig. (d)], the toggle mechanism is in the state (W) in which the set mold clamping force is obtained, and a state in which the mold is stuck with the mold clamping force made almost zero is obtained.
