PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the detection of the bubble volume, the water level, and the dirt level in water by effectively utilizing an optical sensor. SOLUTION: This dishwasher is provided with one light emitting part 31, and two light receiving parts; a first light receiving part 32 installed at a place where the light directly emitted from the light emitting part 31 can be received, and a second light receiving part 33 installed at a place where the light reflected on the water surface at a prescribed height can be received. The combined use of the light emitting part 31 and the second light receiving part 33 helps detect the water level L1, based on which the output by a water level sensor of a pressure detection type is calibrated to enhance the water level detection accuracy. The combined use of the light emitting part 31 and the first light receiving part 32 helps detect the bubble volume on the water surface or the dirt level in water, whose results are used in controlling the washing and rinsing operations.
