PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional angle adjusting mechanism of a bookrest or the like, used to adjust an angle by fastening and loosening a thumbscrew by pivotably fastening by the thumbscrew or others, causes the fastened thumbscrew to be naturally loosen to make it difficult to maintain the angle for a long period time. SOLUTION: The bookrest has a base 1, a support member 2, a pivot means 3, and a top plate 4. A concave groove 2a for sliding is formed in the support member, a slider 5 is inwardly fitted into the concave groove for sliding, the slider is secured to the pivot means, the top plate is pivoted by sliding the slider, further a through hole 5b for a spherical body is bored into which the spherical body 6 is inwardly fitted in the slider, an engaging piece 5c of the spherical body is projectedly formed and a holder piece 5d of the spherical body is projectedly formed in the through hole for the spherical body, the spherical body is projected and inwardly fitted in the lower surface of the slider between the holder piece and the engaging piece, furthermore a concave and depressed portion 2b into which the spherical body is insertably and removably fitted is formed.
