PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing gluconic acid from waste paper through a saccharifying process, wherein separation of bacterium belonging to genus Aspergillus and addition of iron ions are not performed and the method keeps high productivity even if reuse of microbial cells are repeated. SOLUTION: The method for producing gluconic acid comprises enzymatic saccharification of waste paper, and gluconic fermentation of the obtained saccharide to produce gluconic acid, wherein the method comprises a process for saccharifying waste paper to obtain a saccharified solution and a process for gluconic fermentation of the obtained saccharified solution with a bacterium belonging to genus Aspergillus, and the gluconic fermentation is performed by replacing a part of the gluconic fermentation solution with a new saccharified solution.
