PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical activator by using lipase, having excellent specific enzyme activity and asymmetric selectivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optical activator comprises esterifying one of a racemic alcohol in a solvent containing an alkoxycycloalkane represented by the formula [1] A(OR)<SB>n</SB>(A is a cyclopentene ring, a cyclohexane ring or a cycloheptane ring; R is a 1-3C alkyl group; (n) is 1-3; when (n) is 2 or 3, a plurality of Rs may be each the same or different) in the presence of the lipase and separating a formed optically active ester from an optically active alcohol.
