An electrophotographic photoreceptor containing a naphthalenetetracarboxylic acid diimide derivative of Formula (1), which has a branched alkyl group substituted with an aryl group at the alpha-position with regard to nitrogen atoms of imide groups: wherein R<SUB>1 </SUB>and R<SUB>2 </SUB>are independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>20 </SUB>substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, and a C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>20 </SUB>substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group; R<SUB>3 </SUB>is selected from the group consisting of a C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>20 </SUB>substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>20 </SUB>substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group, a C<SUB>7</SUB>-C<SUB>30 </SUB>substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group, and a group having the formula -(CH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>n</SUB>-Y-R<SUB>4</SUB>; Ar is a C<SUB>6</SUB>-C<SUB>30 </SUB>substituted or unsubstituted aryl group; Y is an oxygen or sulfur atom; R<SUB>4 </SUB>is a hydrogen atom or a C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>20 </SUB>substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group; and n is an integer between 1 and 12. The naphthalenetetracarboxylic acid diimide derivative has high solubility in organic solvents and compatibility with binder resins, thus providing better electron transporting ability. The invention is also directed to an electrophotographic imaging apparatus using the photoreceptor.
