<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a network monitoring device to collect statistics information on the line of a device to be monitored by using ICMP ECHO. <P>SOLUTION: A monitoring device 100 creates a statistics information header, and transmits ICMP ECHO with the created statistics information as an ICMP payload to the device 110 to be monitored. The device 110 to be monitored receives the ICMP ECHO, specifies the line from which the statistics information should be fetched when it is determined that the normal statistics information header is stored, and acquires the statistics information from a storage 113 for writing and returning to the payload of the ICMP ECHO. When the monitoring device 100 determines that the normal statistics information is stored in the payload of the returned ICMP ECHO REPLY, the statistics information is fetched for storing in a storage 104. As a result, the statistics information can be collected from a compact device of strictly restricted memory capacity without any costs as compared with the use of SNMP, and more statistics information can be collected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
