PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To edit utterance data even if the format of the data are not known and to grasp variations of the speaking speed and pitch or loudness of the utterance without performing utterance processing according to the utterance data. SOLUTION: When a data string of syllable data representing an utterance voiced wording by syllables is inputted, a display controller determines the speaking speed and pitch, or loudness of each syllable based upon the respective syllable data, and controls a display device to rearrange and display characters representing the utterance of the respective syllables at intervals corresponding to the speaking speed and also controls the display device to display data showing the pitches or loudness of the syllables nearby the characters. The display controller is made to edit the intervals of the characters or the data according to a user's indication, and to convert the display contents of the display device to a prescribed data format to generate utterance data for outputting a speech represented by the display contents to electronic equipment.
