PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce pressurized contact force of a regulating member which is in pressurized contact with an endless belt, while supplying one-component developer of a layer thickness suitable for development to the surface of an image carrier from the outer peripheral surface of the endless belt. SOLUTION: The developing apparatus includes: the endless belt 43 which is stretched by a drive roller 46 and a driven roller 47 and is in contact with a part of the surface of a photoreceptor drum 1 in a contact section 43a; a layer regulating blade 44 which is in pressurized contact with the follower roller 47 via the endless belt 43 in a pressurized contact section 43b; and the drive roller 46 which transmits driving force to the endless belt 43 in a drive transmitting position 43c. Load that is reverse to the rotating direction of the endless belt 43 is applied to the endless belt 43 via the driven roller 47 by a brake device 50 provided to the rotary shaft 47a of the driven roller 47.
