PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing structure and a discharge passage used therefor, capable of reducing the site area required for installing a flow passage on the downstream side of an energy absorber, by reducing turbulence and a water surface change of a water flow when bending the downstream flow passage of the energy absorber. SOLUTION: This energy absorbing structure is constituted by using the energy absorber 2, and the discharge passage 3 for outwardly discharging fluid whose energy is absorbed by the energy absorber 2. At this time, a bending part 14 for changing the flow direction of the fluid is formed in the discharge passage 3. A straightening block 13 is arranged on a bottom surface in the bending part 14.
