PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a column assist type electric power steering device capable of taking a collapse stroke in secondary collision long and easily installing a tilt mechanism and a telescopic mechanism, high in vibrational rigidity and favorable in steering stability. SOLUTION: It is possible to arrange an electric assist mechanism 20 to the front side of a car body as an intermediate shaft 95 is eliminated because a single constant velocity universal joint 50 is used for connection between an output shaft 25 and a pinion shaft 60, and it is possible to take the collapse stroke S1 long as a distance between the electric assist mechanism 20 and a steering wheel 42 increases.
