Anti-theft device and method for a means of transport comprise a connecting member (9) coupling to a manually operated component, a rotatable member (12) coupling to a rotatable shaft (15), a movable member (11) provided between the connecting member (9) and the rotatable member (12), a restriction member (7) provided near the rotatable shaft (15), and a lock unit movable under the control of a coded means. The operating modes of the device can be changed by a key or other coded means, wherein in the non-anti-theft mode, the movable member (11) connects the connecting member (9) to the rotatable member (12), and the restriction member (7) can't obstruct the device from being removed from the rotatable shaft (15); in the anti-theft mode, the movable member (11) disconnects the connecting member (9) with the rotatable member (12), and the restriction member (7) can obstruct the device from being removed from the rotatable shaft (15).
