<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer controller which can improve the ease of use of a printer by detecting and specifying the kind of a printing medium to be used for printing through utilization of an optical sensor, and to provide a printer and a printer controlling method. <P>SOLUTION: In the printer controller, the printer and the printer controlling method related to one form, on the basis of a value of a photodetection output signal of the optical sensor which has a light emitting part for emitting an irradiation light to the printing medium loaded in a paper feeding tray of the printer, and a light receiving part for receiving and detecting a reflecting light reflected at the printing medium surface and for conversion generating the photodetection output signal of the value corresponding to an intensity of the reflecting light, distinction of a large classification of the kind of the printing medium is carried out. At the same time, small classifications of the kind of the printing medium belonging to the distinguished large classification are presented with priority, thereby indicating to select any of the small classifications. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
