<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing method, and a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus by which the change of a magnetic tape width at the time of recording and at the time of reproduction due to a creep error can be suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus has a tape tension control mechanism 80 controlling tension of a magnetic tape 51, wherein such a control is performed that a prescribed load in the range of an elastic deformation region not lower than a crooked point and not higher than a yield point of increase of the expansion ratio when load is increased in a load-expansion ratio characteristic curve of the magnetic tape is given to the magnetic tape when recording and reproduction of the magnetic tape 51 are performed. Thereby, usage in the hysteresis region of the load-expansion ratio characteristic is avoided and the prescribed change of the expansion ratio of the tape in recording and reproduction, that is the change of the tape width can be suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
