PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating head slider capable of improving the pressure reduction characteristics of the slider by increasing the positive pressure generation efficiency of a side pad. SOLUTION: A pair of side pads arranged to face each other sandwiching the deep part of a negative pressure generation part in a direction orthogonal to a slider flowing direction is formed into multistages such as 3 stages or more. The highest surface among the multistaged surfaces is set as a nonmilling surface, and the heights of the multistages surfaces are set so that a groove is deeper as it is closer to an inlet end. Further, the partial surrounding of the side pad area of the second stage with the area of the nonmilling surface, and the partial surrounding of the side pad area of the third stage with the side pad area of the second stage are effective for increasing the positive pressure generation efficiency of the side pad.
