PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high quality cilazapril. SOLUTION: This cilazapril represented by formula IV is produced from a compound of formula III (wherein R is≤18C alkyl or aralkyl) which is obtained from ethyl (R)-2-methylsulfonyloxy-4-phenylbutyrate of formula I and a compound of formula II (wherein R is the same as above).
