PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance compound having an ethylaluminum compound as a raw material, an addition polymerization catalyst component, an addition polymerization catalyst, and an efficient method for manufacturing an addition polymer by using the addition polymerization catalyst. SOLUTION: A compound (A) is obtained by bringing (a) EtAlL<SP>1</SP><SB>2</SB>(wherein Et is an ethyl group; and L<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen, a≥2C hydrocarbon group or a halogen) into contact with (b) R<SP>1</SP><SB>t-1</SB>TH (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is an electron-attracting group or a group containing an electron-attracting group; T is a group 15 or 16 nonmetallic atom; and t is a valence of T) and then bringing the resulting compound into contact with (c) R<SP>2</SP><SB>t-2</SB>TH<SB>2</SB>(wherein R<SP>2</SP>is a hydrocarbon group or a halogenated hydrocarbon; and T and t are the same as defined above). The addition polymerization catalyst component is composed of the compound. The addition polymerization catalyst is obtained by bringing the compound (A) into contact with a transition metal compound (B).
