PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve energy-saving performance and controllability by improving operation efficiency over the whole, and to secure stable operation under the high peripheral-temperature environment. SOLUTION: A refrigeration cycle 2 uses a digital controlled refrigerant compressor 6 provided with a digital selecting mechanism 5 for selecting load condition for compressing refrigerant when a compressor motor 4 is operated and unload condition for releasing compression of the refrigerant when the compressor motor 4 is operated. The digital selecting mechanism 5 is controlled for selection to variably control liquid temperature Tw on the basis of the temperature (liquid temperature Tw) of a cooling liquid W to be supplied to a material M to be cooled, and at least peripheral temperature Tr is detected, and when the detected peripheral temperature Tr is getting higher, the digital controlled refrigerant compressor 6 is controlled to lower load ratio Rrä=time tr in the load condition/(time tr in the load condition + time tn in the unload condition)}.
