PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltage converter that can constantly secure a proper operation state. SOLUTION: A first control circuit 3 operates both a main conversion circuit 1 and a sub-conversion circuit 2 in a state that the sum of output currents of the main circuit 1 and the sub-conversion circuit 2 exceeds a reference current, and at the same time, performs stop control to the sub-conversion circuit 2 in a state that the sum of the output currents is not larger than the reference current. A second control circuit 4 determines whether the main conversion circuit 1 is in a fault state or not by taking into consideration not only the detection result of an output voltage detection circuit 5 but also the detection result of an overcurrent detection circuit 6. By this, The determination of the fault of the main conversion circuit 1 is made with accuracy. When the main conversion circuit 1 is determined to be in the fault state, the stop control to the sub-conversion circuit 2 by the first control circuit 3 is canceled. As a result, voltage conversion operation can be continued by the sub-conversion circuit 2 even if the main conversion circuit1 1 is in the fault state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
