PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively correct detective pixels without degrading the quality of an image. SOLUTION: The defective pixels and edge directions of pixels being objects of correction of a two-dimensional picture signal comprising the defective pixels are detected, and the correction and the detection of the defective pixels along the edge directions are performed.
