PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of precisely judging a base material by taking "color component" of an original into account. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus comprises a maximum value calculator 30 for calculating, for each pixel, the maximum value among the pixel values of color components provided to each pixel, a minimum value calculator 31 for calculating, for each pixel, the minimum value among the pixel values of color components provided to each pixel, a difference calculator 32 for calculating, for each pixel, a difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of the same pixel, a differential histogram generator 33 for generating a histogram about difference based on the difference, and a judging part 34 for judging presence of a base material based on the histogram about the difference.
