PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader enabling an external device to set reading conditions and facilitating setting the reading conditions. SOLUTION: An MFP is provided with a scanner for outputting read image data of an original document according to given reading conditions; a communication unit for communicating with the external device via a communication line; an operation panel for accepting an instruction operation by a user; and a control unit for controlling the scanner, the communication unit, and the operation panel. When the communication unit receives an electronic mail including the reading conditions from a user computer (step S01), the control unit correlates a one-touch key provided on the operation panel with the received reading conditions (step S06).
