<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical lighting apparatus using a solid light source such as a light emitting diode, capable of easily attaining the miniaturization, and to provide a projection type image display apparatus not using a cross dichroic prism and a cross dichroic mirror. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting apparatus 2 is arranged in the projection type image display apparatus 1. The lighting apparatus 2 is constituted of three LED arrays 3R, 3G and 3B. The LED array is constituted by arranging a plurality of LEDs (light emitting diode) on the same plane. Each optical axis of outgoing light of the LED does not orthogonally cross the plane (LED arrangement plane). Red light emitted from the LED array 3R is reflected by the dichroic mirror 4G. Green light emitted from the LED array 3G is transmitted through the dichroic mirror 4G. The green light and the red light are guided to the dichroic mirror 4B. The green light and the red light are reflected by the dichroic mirror 4B. Blue light emitted from the LED array 3B is transmitted through the dichroic mirror 4B. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
