<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting nodular shadow from three-dimensional chest CT images using a computer, for highly accurately detecting the nodular shadow in a simple process. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for detecting the nodular shadow from the three-dimensional chest CT images using the computer, three-dimensional volume data are prepared 11 from chest CT slice image data, a lung field region is selected 13 from the three-dimensional volume data, a background trend components are removed 12 by a morphological filtering processing in chest CT slice images, and false-positive shadows are removed from the images from which the background trend components are removed.
