PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus which is usable as a position information communication apparatus and also a usual radio communication apparatus, and selects either a communication mode for the position information communication apparatus and a communication mode for the usual radio communication apparatus according to an own apparatus locating area. SOLUTION: A portable terminal 1 for a walker has its own machine name available for communicating with the other communication apparatus and acquiring position information. A controller 2 of the walker portable terminal 1 functions as a means for deciding whether the own apparatus locates in a specified area, e.g., outdoor; and a communication control means which sends transmission data with position information attached to its own apparatus machine name or its own ID newly set up upon receipt of an inquiry from other communication apparatus, if the own apparatus is decided to be outdoor, or communicates with the other component apparatus with its own machine name used when an inquiry comes from the other communication apparatus, if its own apparatus is decided to be indoor.
