PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission capable of obtaining sufficient lubricating performance in regard to all portions including an outer ring, without damaging strength of a cage. SOLUTION: The cage 9 of this toroidal type continuously variable transmission comprises a first holding element 9A arranged on the outer ring 7b side and a second holding element 9B arranged on an inner ring 7a side so as to oppose to the first holding element 9A and holding a rolling element 8 in cooperation with the first holding element 9A. An oil hole 44 for passing lubricating oil from a trunnion 4 side is provided in the first holding element 9A, and an oil storage space S for storing lubricating oil flowing through the oil hole 44 is provided between the first holding element 9A and the second holding element 9B.
