PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sheet shutter from falling due to trouble in a sheet shutter driving device. SOLUTION: The sheet shutter driving device 1 comprises a drum 2 to be rotated by rotation driving force transmitted from a driving motor 7; a sheet shutter 3 wound off and back around the drum 2; a brake 6 for braking rotation of the drum 2; and a control part 10 for controlling driving of the driving motor 7 and application of the brake 6. The sheet shutter driving device 1 further has a sensor 20 for detecting a rotational rate of a rotary shaft 7a of the driving motor 7. The control part 10 comprises a comparator 23 for comparing the difference between the rotational rate detected by the sensor 20 and a commanded rotational rate with a predetermined value; a judgement means 24 for judging whether action of the sheet shutter 3 is abnormal or not based on the result of the comparison by the comparator 23; and a stop means 25 for stopping the rotation of the drum 2 by application of the brake 6 and stopping the rotation of the driving motor 7 as well when the action is determined as abnormality in the judgement means 24.
