PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyethylene terephthalate, in which bubbles and fish eyes are hardly generated in moldings, crystallization controlling properties of the moldings are good, transparency is excellent, and the dirt of a mold during molding is hardly generated. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the polyethylene terephthalate, the polyethylene terephthalate obtained by melt polymerization is discharged in a strand shape from a die head, cooled, solidified, and cut into a chip state. After the polyethylene terephthalate is cut into the chip state in conditions satisfying a specific formula, the chips are cooled in conditions satisfying another specific formula.
