PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smelting reduction process for metallic-oxide-containing ore, which can use a large amount of inexpensive ore containing the metallic oxide, without increasing the amount of dust formed in a furnace and promoting the erosion of a furnace wall refractory. SOLUTION: This smelting reduction process is an improved smelting reduction process for metallic-oxide-containing ore, which comprises employing an iron bath type reaction vessel equipped with a top-blowing lance of an oxidizing gas and a raw-material-feeding lance different from the top-blowing lance; charging charcoal wood into molten iron held in the iron bath type reaction vessel; and, supplying powdery or granular metallic-oxide-containing ore through the raw-material-feeding lance, toward an oxidizing gas jet sprouted from the top-blowing lance.
