PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus or the like capable of bringing efficiency to image reproduction by generating histograms only from pixels discriminated to be chromatic pixels and discriminating whether or not an original is to be color-copied on the basis of the featured values of the shape of the histograms so as to prevent unnecessary color reproduction. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus provided with an original discrimination means (ACS processing section 12) including: a chromatic / achromatic pixel discrimination section for discriminating whether each pixel of input image data is a chromatic pixel or an achromatic pixel; a chromatic pixel histogram generating section for generating the histogram from the data discriminated to include chromatic pixels; and a histogram analysis section for discriminating whether the input image data are data of a color original or data of a monochromatic original by analyzing the shape of the generated histogram, and the image processing apparatus applies processing for the color original or the monochromatic original to the input image data on the basis of a discrimination result of the original discrimination means.
