PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy in measurement of an eddy current type sensor used in a production line for a steel sheet. SOLUTION: The device is provided with: a wiping nozzle 5 for controlling the coating weight of hot dip plating stuck to a steel sheet 1; an eddy current type sensor 6 for measuring the distance in a gap between the steel sheet 1 and the wiping nozzle 5; a coating weight instrument 10; and a sheet thermometer or the like. With respect to the measured value of the distance in the gap by the eddy current type sensor 6, the degree of an error to be corrected caused from the relation with the sheet temperature or sheet thickness of the steel sheet 1 is calculated based on the actual state of the steel sheet on a line, and is fed-back to the measured value, so as to be corrected. Thus, the position of the wiping nozzle 5 can be correctly calculated, and further, the wiping nozzle 5 can be positioned to the position calculated based on the degree in the difference between the objective coating weight and the present coating weight.
